December 4, 2014 Update:
2014, a year in review:
- Our relationship with Bill Borger continues as strong as ever
- We earned our way in to marketing work for the Borger Group
- Our first client from 2008, Cawston Tax Help, is running even stronger having increased their staff by 50 percent!
- On the business development side, we launched FancyCufflink.com and HarmonyFashion.net
- We are going as strong as ever with our Public Relations and SEO work
- 2014 was a bigger than normal year for our video production services
- about 100 other projects crossed our desk in 2014 and we can't wait for what 2015 brings!
Maybe the best way to tell you about David Howse Marketing is to give you a year-in-review.
This past year has been an incredible one for David Howse Marketing Ltd. Some major clients joined us such as Calgary commercial real estate developer and investor Frank Lonardelli along with his company Arlington Street Investments. We spent the year working with Calgary's premier men's wear store Supreme Men's Wear (working with Darren Biedermann has been an absolute privilege!). Q Haute cuisine as run by Marcello Belvedere and Michele Aurigemma took out taste buds to a new level as we managed their marketing in to a new era that has seen social media entering the marketing mix. Our work with Calgary's talented Monika Jensen has seen our portfolio enter the fine art arena; in all we had the opportunity to work with over 20 major Calgary businesses and business people in 2012.
We also continued our close collaborations with Marc Bombenon where we now work with two more of his companies, PDLCC and Surecall. Our relationship remains strong with Lethbridge's number one flooring company FloorRight where we worked our Google ranking strategies to make them number one on several Google search terms; and last but certainly not least Calgary's Bill Borger Jr. has given us so much hands-on support and advice that we have to give credit for any of our successes to him. We also now consult for The Borger Group of Companies - thank you again Bill, we owe everything to you.
The 2012 Tactical Breakdown: What we spent most our time on
- General Marketing Consulting
- Marketing Plan Development
- Business Plan Development
- Website Development
- Search Engine Optimization (ranking a business #1 on Google)

- Video Production (Frank Lonardelli, Roy Copithorn for Cawston & Associates)

- and much, much more.
And now back to the original content.
On December 16, 2009, I wrote my final exam at the University of Lethbridge. My degree, a Bachelor of Management, capped over seven years of post-secondary education.
During those seven years I also earned a two-year college diploma in Marketing, studied computer science for two years and spent some time at the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design.
But, my real education in marketing started when I was 12. My father, a 47-year veteran of print advertising and publishing started me on my journey with a newspaper sales and delivery job.
I probably learned more about marketing when I was 12 than from any particular marketing class. I also learned that not very many people read newspapers - and that was over 20 years ago.
After my early years of selling newspapers, I spent two years in market and marketing research, then three years in sales (and believe me, I am an expert at picking out the hot air sales talk that is thinly disguised as a marketing analysis).
My creative side was developed with six years in film and television production in Vancouver and Los Angeles. It was after my years in TV that I decided a more formal education would help me take the next step to starting my own business as a marketing consultant.
I started David Howse Marketing in May of 2008 and have loved every minute of it. I want to thank the local business owners for giving me my start here in Lethbridge [I now operate in both Calgary and Lethbridge]; I've received as much helpful advice as I've given. And there you have it, the short version of my marketing story.
If you have a question about any of the topics I have discussed on this website please, do not hesitate to call or email me.
To give you a glimpse of my academic background, I have included the portion of my academic work (the 36 most relevant courses) which creates the theoretic framework for my consulting.
Sincerely, David Howse
Relevant Academic Course Work. Some people have asked why I have my university courses and grades listed on my website. The answer is simple, even if the relevance of academic learning is low when compared to real-world experience, I would rather work with someone who always gives a damn and works hard to do the task put in front of him or her.
